Tuba (Trombone baixo) / PianoIn his "Escenas Latinas" Enrique Crespos has compiled four dances from various South American regions.
The Candombe is a Carnival dance performed by the black ethnic minorities of Uruguay, a reminder of the days of slavery in this small country whose population primarily stems from emigrants from Europe.
The Tango developed almost parallel to the Candombe. It originated at the turn of the century in the slums of Montevideo and Buenos Aires amongst European immigrants. For around 40 years it remained a phenomenon and form of expression of the lower strata of society before it was discovered by musicians, composers and poets of renown in these countries, greatly enhancing its cultural status.
Balada India is Enrique Crespo's homage to the oppressed American-Indian population of America and particularly to the American Indians of his homeland who have now completely died out.
The Choro originates from Brazil and is a typical example of Brazilian dance music. It was extremely popular with certain famous Brazilian composers of serious music, such as Valdir Acevedos and Heitor Villa-Lobos.
